200 Years Fraunhofer lines

a lecture in English

Researcher Joseph von Fraunhofer, born in 1787, brought us closer to the stars. Counted as one of the founders of modern optics, he succeeded in manufacturing telescopes in a quality that had never been seen before. In 1814, he made his most significant discovery, which was then named after him – Fraunhofer lines. These make it possible for us to get a closer look at space and to understand how stars are born.

a documentary in English

The third installment in BODY TYPED, a trilogy (including THE GUARANTEE and the Sundance award-winning WET DREAMS AND FALSE IMAGES) examining notions of physical perfection. In 34x25x36, we visit the Patina V Mannequin Factory where the artistry, craft and marketing that go into creating "the ideal woman of the moment"--in plastic--are accompanied by a remarkable amount of reflection on just what that ideal means. The designer hearkens back to the roots of his craft not only in French 19th-century wax figures but also in the religious icons of medieval times.
Provocative and informative, the film premiered at the SXSW film festival, and director, Jesse Epstein, was recently named to Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film.

38-39˚c gives us the blueprint of a relationship between a father and son inside the dream the protagonist experiences while under the spell of the elevated temperatures of a bathhouse. Thick sheets of paper in exquisite arrangement represent the two men who are linked by their identical birthmarks, yet cannot seem to look at each other. ---- Maureen Selwood
