Lou Reed on Guns & Ammo | Blank on Blank | PBS Digital Studios

a talk in English

"I write a song called 'Heroin', you would have thought that I murdered the Pope or something"
- Lou Reed on March 20, 1987, as told to Joe Smith

Lou Reed. Lou Reed. Here we bring you a rarely heard interview Lou recored in 1987. It's vintage Lou. Salty and sweet. Earnest and cocky. Grouchy and kind of endearing. Reed (and his legendary band The Velvet Underground) were those musicians who never got the extensive accolades or awards--nor the riches many of their contemporaries found. Yet he never seemed to waver in his search for the perfect sound and his quest "to elevate the rock and roll song and take it where it hadn't been taken before." Here we present some interview outtakes that give a taste for this iconic American musician. Lou Reed died of liver disease on October 27, 2013. He was 71.

In this animated film Lou Reed talks about chasing off nosy college kids on his porch with his shotgun, how he dreamed about writing the great American novel while at Syracuse University, "how savage the reaction against" the Velvet Underground was, the intention of taking books and putting them into songs, writing rock and roll you could grow old with, not thinking The Doors or the Beatles were up to the level of his band, and how he hoped to elevate the rock and roll song to where it hadn't been before.

RIP, Lou.

LOU REED QUOTES

"What we had was ambition and a goal ... to elevate the rock and roll song and take it where it hadn't been taken before."
"I have faith in my own vision, and didn't want them to tamper with it."
"Don't thin my voice out and make it like that high shit. This is the way I sound."
" I've gone out with my shotgun. This is hunting country out there. You better run."
"I wanted to write the great American novel but I also loved rock and roll."
"I got a little puzzled at how savage the reaction against us was."

HEAD OVER HEELS

a narrative film in no language

www.headoverheels.tv

"Of the animated shorts, [Head Over Heels is] the cleverest."
-Stephen Holden, The New York Times

"The attention to detail is staggering, particularly for a stop-motion animated movie... There may be an impressive crop of animated shorts this year, but Head Over Heels is the most fully realized of the whole bunch. Flawless."
-William Bibbiani, CraveOnline.com

"This beautifully animated film is also a wonderfully unique story... Both whimsical and deeply felt... Simply extraordinary."
-Richard Propes, theindependentcritic.com

"The true charmer of the screening... The understated nature of the central couple's struggle calls for repeat viewing."
-Ben Mitchell, skwigly.co.uk

Get Back

a narrative film in English

A short film written and directed by Eliot Rausch, presented by the Lincoln Motor Company as part of the “Hello, Again” series, which asks filmmakers to reimagine the familiar into something fresh and new. Rausch found himself increasingly distracted by his phone, his email, and his need to be in touch, and realized that he was losing sense of what he was actually connected to. He made this film to explore the way humans connect in an era when they are more "connected" than ever.

PARADIGM (2013) - 3D Fractal Animated Short Film | HD by Chris D'Andrea

an experimental film in no language

PARADIGM is a 3D animated short film created by Christopher D'Andrea for his BFA senior project. Its a story between two fractal generated entities extremely diverse in their nature. As the two objects progress, they evolve and change in the world around them. Their ultimate interaction is not held back by their environment because finally, the pieces merge and collide.

The concept behind the film represents man-kinds untold story of its very near future. Here, the organic shape represents humanity, as we have grown from a single cell into an advanced space-faring species. The geometric object represents technology. When the two meet, it is up to the viewer to interpret whether technology will destroy or enhance us in the coming paradigm shift.

'I wanted the viewers to question where they stand on this matter. It's hard to imagine a world where man is completely merged with technology.. and yet again, it's even harder to imagine a world without it. Although this is my personal message in the film, I encourage everyone to walk away with their own interpretations.'

Enjoy :)
