A polysexual love triangle in Berlin

a narrative film in English

Los Angeles-based director Jordan Blady, known for his videos for the likes of Microsoft and Spotify, talks about his short film, Syllables:

“In terms of narrative, I am most fascinated by characters that know what they want, try to do something about it, but ultimately do not change. To me this is more true to life. I am interested in the loop, in the lack of change, and how a character will often repeat themselves—especially in cases where they have learned something in the process.” Read more on NOWNESS - http://bit.ly/2hmIWSn

But why do we become so attached to things? Christian Jarrett details the psychology of ownership.

Boxer by Day, Tenor by Night

a documentary in English

Amsterdam-based artist and director Ruben Van Leer’s latest film, You Don’t Know Opera, is a high-energy portrait of professional tenor and amateur boxer Frank Engel, made in collaboration with the Dutch National Opera with the aim of attracting a different audience into its drama-filled world. Here, Van Leer talks about the story behind the film:
"This film is about the courageousness of self-expression. A battle with the self is the ultimate revolution. Frank is a boxer and a tenor in the chorus of Amsterdam’s Dutch National Opera. In the film he’s fighting his demon, a shadow of himself.” Read more on NOWNESS - http://bit.ly/2gzSyb2

Forget climate Apocalypse. There's hope for our warming planet | Jelmer Mommers | TEDxMaastricht

a talk in English

In the media’s version of climate change, the end is always nigh. But equating global warming with the apocalypse is wrong. In his talk, journalist Jelmer Mommers brings you the real story. The truth is more human and hopeful than fiction, because millions of people are working to end the era of fossil fuels, along with the violence and inequality that have accompanied this era from the beginning.

Correction 7 november 2016: there's an error in the slide titled ‘The top 10% of consumers emit half of the worlds carbon’. It mistakenly divides consumers in eleven groups of ten percent. The bar on the left is redundant. Data credit: Chancel & Piketty, 2015.

Jelmer Mommers is an investigative journalist specialized in the field of climate change and energy for the Dutch journalism platform ‘The Correspondent’. He focuses on the intersection between sustainability, culture, politics and economics.

Is not having children selfish? Far from it | Julie Bindel – In My Opinion

a report in English

The idea that all women want to be mothers is outdated and sexist, argues Julie Bindel.

She says people who choose not to become parents are often seen as sexist, but that parents who give up on trying to change the world in order to have children and then only think about their own family receive no judgment.
