Erään hyönteisen tuho
The Death of an Insect

7 min, 35 mm, animation / documentary / experimental, 1:1,85, dolby digital, 24 fps, 2010

synopsis:

In a lifeless urban landscape where time itself has stopped its crawl, a mad ballet is commencing and a newly hatched butterfly is about to die.

This tragic story was constructed using dead insects gathered from forgotten attics and tool sheds, between window panels and cobwebs. It combines a number of animation techniques from classic stop-motion animation to animated 3D models of x-ray CT-scanned insects.

Synopsis:

“What would the world be like from an underground perspective?”

SURFACE is an experimental film, exploring the emotional journey from an underground urban perspective. This 'urban symphony' transforms human actions and street objects into beats that harmoniously compose a grand audio and visual composition. The film emphasizes the ideas of ‘point of contact’, ‘human identity’ and notion of ‘live footprints’.

SURFACE is a part of UND-VIS, a thesis project for MFA Design and Technology, Parsons The New School for Design. UND-VIS : Under Vision Experiment; explores the new visual language of an unconventional perspective from below.

Film inspired by the theoretic work of George Berkeley and basics of synesthetic perception.
It's a game of imagination provoked by sound. Individual sounds penetrating into the apartment of the main character relieved of their visual designates evoke images distant from its origins.

100 Years - Armenian Genocide

an experimental film in English

In 2015, we created this cell animation short to commemorate the Armenian Genocide Centenary. To the date, the Turkish government still denies the genocide took place, dodging their responsibility. 100 years will have passed this April 24th, and Armenians will keep on fighting for justice. This is a small tribute to the 1.500.000 victims.

LGFUAD

an experimental film in English

Winner Best Undergraduate Animation - Ottawa International Animation Festival 2010

LGFUAD
Suburbia numbs the mind, and rears death within us. I have injected LGFUAD with the eerie discomfort I find within myself, stemming from the obsession I have with the relentlessness and tension that pulses through suburban youth. It is a possession by certain intensities that manifest themselves within the body somewhere between extreme emotion and a complete lack thereof: void. Outlets for these intensities:
1. sexual exploits 2. drugs and alcohol 3. violence 4. x-treme sports
The technique with which I've created the film alludes much to my youth. The act of drawing with crayons and allowing the pigments to dictate the forms is very raw and ritual. I have also realized the potential of the computer age I have grown up into, and have blended these two worlds to create something personal, while still fresh and contemporary.
Through the narrative I have created my own memory for someone: for myself. It is an everlasting limbo where death has no meaning . A static space where the symbols that incarnate our childhoods and the fiendishness of the macabre void we find ourselves constantly moving towards coalesce.
This film is a desperate attempt to relive my own past in a different body, and with a different mind.
LGFUAD :: let's get fucked up and die.

Graduation project.

This film has been written symmetrically:
the second half is strictly like the first, but played backwards and mirrored.
The second part doesn't act like a simple rewinding, but as the following of the first.
It explores all sorts of symmetry: compositions, shapes, sounds and music, scenario, colors, actions, time...

Music by Cliff Martinez & Joseph Haydn

Le haricot bleu (english subtitles)

an experimental film in French

http://www.pierreetjeanvillemin.fr

The blue bean is a wonder of nature.
The depth and intensity of its colour makes this poisonous mushroom all the more deadly since it is attractive.
Having friends is a wonder in life.
What more natural than to share the small joys with those we love.
True friends are after their devotion; it is through them that I knew that the blue bean was delicious and edible!
