The Mafia Is Trashing Italy... Literally (Part 1)

a report in English

In the city of Naples, Italy, the Mafia has controlled the waste-management industry for decades -- dumping and burning trash across its rolling hills and vineyards. In 1994, the European Union declared the situation an official environmental emergency, and things have only gotten worse since then. When we investigated the situation we found mutated sheep, poisoned mozzarella, alarming rates of cancer, and pissed off farmers ready to push back against the Camorra, Italy's most powerful and dangerous criminal organization (and the government that enables it).

Incarnate

a narrative film in English

• A nervous soldier must drastically break protocol before the whole rescue mission fails •

In an odd way, I've always thought of this as a Christmas movie. Not in the normal sense of Rudolf and Santa Claus or holiday cheer; but in another way that the title indicates. The impetus behind the film was always a fascination with the Christian miracle of the incarnation. God becoming man is like an alien becoming human. To me, it's as crazy as knowing that your whole ant colony is doomed to die, unless you agreed to become an ant. After seeing Children of Men, I strongly felt how the birth of a baby could be the hope for all mankind [whether or not that was the intention of the filmmakers]. And I wondered if I could focus my story around a transformation into something other, something less, in order to save. So it's definitely an allegory, and an experiment. I hope you feel something because of it, and think new thoughts afterward.

Thanks to the many people who helped make it a reality. There were some really exhausting, long days, and I haven't forgotten how hard everyone worked. Chris Stiles, I will forever be in your debt.
